2007 Legislative Session

The Minnesota Legislature is in session starting January 2, and the FACTS Coalition will be advocating for an alcohol excise tax increase.

On Wednesday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. the Senate Public Safety Finance Division will hear Senator Murphy's and Senator Marty's alcohol tax bills.  Senator Murphy's bill, SF 779, proposes raising the alcohol tax by 5 cents per drink to provide funding for chemical dependency treatment, detox, intensified probation and prevention. Senator Marty's bill, SF 1022, would raise the tax by 10 cents per drink.
A press conference is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in room 125 of the Capitol.

On January 9, more than 300 teens participated in the MADD Youth-in-Action Day at the Capitol.  Teens from across Minnesota came to St. Paul to learn about increasing the alcohol excise tax and directing increased funding to prevention.
